List rules

Notes Members

   Basic list rules.

Please:

a. Do not post attachments of any kind to the list, whether you think they are on topic or not. If an attachment reaches the list, the poster will be banned from the list without warning. Although most types of attachments are filtered out by the server before reaching the list, they still arrive at the listowner's mailbox.

b. Do not use html or similar formatting or encoding options when posting to the list. While many email programs read such formats without problems, others do not, and in any event they appear as line after line of ASCII garbage in the digest. Again, most formatting styles are filtered out by the server. In that case, the listowner will return the post and ask the poster to use plain text.

c. Keep on topic as much as possible, and when posting off topic messages, use "Off Topic" or "OT" in the subject header. Off topic posts must be computer-related. The listowner will end threads relating to politics, government, or other non-computer-related subjects. Anyone who continues to indulge in such behavior after being warned will be baned.

d. Edit your replies to posts so not to copy every preceding post in the reply. Please copy only the most relevant parts.

e. Do not engage in flaming. Basic courtesy and civility is expected of all posters. If you have a vehement dispute with another member, take it to private email. Anyone engaging in flaming, name-calling or uncivil behavior will be baned.

f. Do not post that "my hardware/OS/browser/other software is better than yours" or "hardware/OS/browser/other software xyz is great, sucks, is responsible for global warming, etc." The list is not a forum for promoting or denigrating such products.

g. Do not request, promote or advertise software cracks, serial numbers or other ways to avoid paying shareware or software fees.

h. Do not post "for sale" notices or use the list for commercial purposes. If you have items for sale or trade, or you are looking for particular items, please send them to altcpu@yahoo.com so that they can be included in the weekly garage sale posting to the list.

i. Do not post spam, virus "warnings" which are known hoaxes, or other completely irrelevant material. Doing so will get you banned from the list without warning.
