This page is intended as a quick but more detailed synopsis of who I am compared to it's predecessor. Contents are displayed in a question and answer format. I welcome questions from the internet community.
Q: Well, who are you already?
A: I am called Ong Joon Kian, the only one of it's particular kind in existence on this planet! I have a strong preference for pronoucing my name in English rather than in Chinese. It makes calling me much easier, as most people have trouble pronouncing my first and middle name.
Q: The format of your name?
A: The format of my name, as by Western convention, is my last, first, and then middle name. Like most Chinese people, the family or last name starts first rather than the more usual first, middle, and last name like in most parts of the Western world and some parts of the Eastern world.
Q: Is there another way of calling you?
A: I personally recommend people to call me JK, as in the English alphabetical order of abc...hi... J K ...lmn... Get it??? It was merely coincidental that my initials are next to each other, I do not think my parents intended it that way.
Q: How old are you?
A: As of writing this answer on 28/02/2004, I am more than 24.01 standard Earth solar years old. For those who are not so inclined, a standard Earth solar year is equivalent to a complete rotation of the planet Earth around it's home star, the Sun.
Q: Your gender?
A: I am a qualified member of the male gender. Very much so!
Q: Where are you from?
A: I was born in the year 1980 A.D. in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
Q: Where do you currently reside?
A: I am currently residing in Melbourne, the capital of the state of Victoria in Australia.
Q: How do you look like?
A: The best answer for this would be: Look for yourself. There is no better way to find out. I usually keep my hair messy most of the time.
Q: Can you explain a little about the picture?
A: This is a very recent picture of myself taken in December 2001 at the Singapore Zoological Gardens while I was there.
Q: Where is Malaysia and Singapore located?
A: Singapore is located at the southern tip of the Malaysian peninsular. You can find a description and map of Malaysia and Singapore at the Information about Malaysia section of this site.
Q: What sort of activities do you like?
A: Most of the things that I like to do very often are related to computers. I like to surf mostly at computer technology sites and play computer games, of course! Some of the games I like include Command & Conquer, Quake, Mechwarrior, Freespace, Unreal Tournament, Max Payne, Homeworld, Counter-Strike, Operation Flashpoint, and Emperor: Battle for Dune. But just because I like them, doesn't mean I am good at them, though. By the list, you should've a pretty accurate guess of the genre of games that I like.
Q: Anything else not so related to computers?
A: Hmmm, this is a tricky question, all right. I sometimes bowl and also like to hang out with some of my friends. I also like listening to music and reading a lot.
Q: What kind of music do you like?
A: My taste is generally somewhere in between pop, light rock, and alternative. I also appreciate classical music. You can have a look at my Winamp playlist here. If you saw the list, you can easily guess that my music tastes are pretty modern and the majority of the songs are slanted towards the lovey dovey kind.
Q: Any favourite artists?
A: Well, I generally have a liking for love songs which are acceptably nice to my ears. I have no particular or specific preference for any artist, I am a fan of none.
Q: Your religious persuasion?
A: I am a Protestant Christian and have been professing this faith for about 17 years now.
Q: Is Christianity a religion or a faith?
A: I believe the answer to this area is very clear. It is definitely a faith, because no other religion on earth requires more faith than Christianity, specifically the divinity and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Q: What are your favourite areas of Christianity?
A: My favourite areas generally include areas of faith and end-time prophecy. This area of prophecy is probably the most complicated area of the faith as it involves unclear and highly vague areas. These are about the future after all, which is already unclear as it is.
Q: What kind of materials do you like to read?
A: My taste in reading material is somewhat limited and quite boring. I usually read news (with a high emphasis on IT) and general knowledge materials most of the time. I have a sizable collection of Archie comics and sometimes dabble in the more intellectual stuff if time permits. These areas would include academic and non-academic reading, like psychology and Christian theological books.
Q: Can you describe yourself a little?
A: I am not exactly good at describing myself. The best means to know me is to naturally get to know me! ;-)
Q: You can't be more descriptive?
A: Well, maybe when I get to write my memoirs will I take the trouble of thinking of writing something more complete. But if you want an answer, some words which can be used to generally describe me are reserved and serious. I am also somewhat of an introvert, as I do not communicate very well with people in real life. My written skills are somewhat stronger than my oral skills, so text-based electronic communication is a real boon to me. As a matter of course I let people decide whether they want to be friendly with me or not.
Q: What language do you commonly use?
A: I am quite strong in English and quite reasonable in Malaysian Malay (the Malaysian national language), both written and spoken. My writing is notably much stronger than my linguistics in both languages. I range from very weak to not capable in the various dialects of the Chinese language.
Q: What's with this picture below?
A: This picture is one of my long time favourites. It means a great deal to me as it describes one of the paradoxes that affects my life, which is probably a paradox by itself. There is no correct answer with regards to the interpretation of this picture, any answer is correct depending on the perspective of the person interpreting it. Wouldn't it be nice if your exams were like this? :-)
Q: How about this one?
A: There was a very good reason why this picture was originally put up here. If you did visit my website at the right time, you would've gotten a glimpse of the reason why it was put here. But that reason is top secret, so I cannot write here why this picture was placed here. I've decided to leave it here for the sake of humour, besides it reminds me of a matter which I do not want to quickly forget.
Q: Is the rating any accurate?
A: As you can probably guess, the picture is about the rating of my IQ or Intelligence Quotient. As you may also guess, it is somewhat inaccurate as my IQ levels does not qualify for MENSA membership. The exact score I got is a top secret known by very few people.
Q: What are you doing at this point in time?
A: I am a student pursuing a degree in Multimedia at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. This is a somewhat new area of studies compared to many other areas in the Information Technology field.
Q: When did the new millennium start?
A: To be accurate, nobody knows the exact date when the third millennium actually starts. Even if you assumed that Jesus Christ was born in the year 1 A.D. (which is either accurate or off by a few years, depending on who you ask), the different calendar systems used since then meant that nobody is sure exactly when the second millennium ends and the third one begins. But we assume 2001 to be the start due to purely mathematical reasons, as there was no 0 B.C. or A.D. Do note that the current Gregorian calendar system has only been in use for several hundred years.
